Fifth Edition of the McHAM Sketching Event: Pivot Points

By popular demand, the Sketching Event returns this spring! This semester, we present Pivot Points, focusing on the atlas and axis vertebrae. Participants will draw these pivotal vertebrae from specimens from the Maude Abbott Medical Museum and their 3D-printed versions, while exploring topics like spinal anatomy, movement, and transformation.

Through an artistic and medical perspective, we’ll examine how these vertebrae act as the critical pivot points connecting head and spine, enabling balance, rotation, and motion.

We will be accompanied by Dr. Fraser, pathologist and director of the Maude Abbott Medical Museum, who has selected the specimens and will explain their anatomy and function. Stephen Legari, art therapist at the Museum of Fine Arts, will curate the artworks and guide our discussion.

De retour ce printemps par demande populaire, l’événement de croquis vous invite cette session à Points de Pivot, où nous explorerons les vertèbres atlas et axis. Les participants pourront les dessiner à partir de spécimens du Musée médical Maude Abbott et de leurs versions imprimées en 3D, tout en abordant l’anatomie de la colonne vertébrale, le mouvement et la transformation.

À travers une perspective artistique et médicale, nous examinerons comment ces vertèbres servent de points de pivot essentiels, reliant la tête à la colonne, et permettant équilibre, rotation et mobilité.

Nous serons accompagnés du Dr Fraser, pathologiste et directeur du Musée médical Maude Abbott, qui expliquera l’anatomie et la fonction des vertèbres. Stephen Legari, art-thérapeute au Musée des beaux-arts, sélectionnera les œuvres et animera la discussion.
